Can You Join Us For The Arizona Libertarian Party Convention?

The annual AZLP convention and organizing meeting is scheduled for January 28, 2018 from 11am to 6pm at the American Legion in Tucson at 330 W Franklin St.

Agenda items will include a discussion of whether to open our primary or keep it closed, election of officers including Chair, 1st and 2nd Vice Chair, Secretary and Assistant Secretary, and reports from our Tech Committee regarding the new website and data management tools that were implemented this year.

It’s important to stress, these are important elections and some of the positions can only be filled by state committee people so attendance is strongly encouraged.

A pasta bar luncheon will be served for a cost of $10. Please RSVP either on Facebook or Meetup and use the invitation features to spread the word:

Arizona Bill Would Decriminalize Marijuana Possession

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Dec. 20, 2017) – A bill pre-filed in the Arizona House would decriminalize marijuana possession. Passage into law during the 2018 legislative session would take another step toward further nullifying federal cannabis prohibition in effect in the state. Read more.

Notes from the Chairman 10/15/17

Fellow Libertarians,

A few days ago, country music legend Charlie Daniels performed at a special veterans’ benefit concert at the Mazatzal casino in Payson. Charlie was so impressed with the people he met before and after the concert, he penned an eloquent salute to our town and our people.

Even if you are not a fan of country music, I urge you to take just a few minutes to read Charlie’s essay; it will inspire you and invigorate you.

Here is the introduction:

The Strength of America
I saw the strength of America this weekend, her will, her goodness, her compassion, her unity and her greatness.

It was in Payson – a small town in Arizona I’m sure most of you have never even heard of – when the residents of the area came together on a Saturday night to honor their veterans.

Even if you don’t agree with 100% of everything Charlie has to say, and I certainly don’t, many of the virtues Charlie admires in the people of Payson are core libertarian values and traits such as hard work, self-reliance, independence, and neighbors voluntarily helping their neighbors.

Certainly, the career politicians and swamp creatures who infest the Elephant and Donkey parties barely pay lip service to any of these values. They take these values for granted, just as they take for granted that they will automatically be on every election ballot across the country every year.

They take for granted that they don’t have to spend millions of dollars to obtain millions of citizen signatures every year just to petition their way onto ballots.

And they most certainly take for granted that they will each automatically receive about 40% of the vote in every election.

Even if you don’t agree with 100% of the official Libertarian Party platform, and I certainly don’t, the choice of who to vote for every year comes down to which party and which candidates best reflect your own values.

The late Harry Browne, Libertarian Party presidential candidate in 1996 and 2000, coined the phrase “Voting for the lesser of two evils is voting for the evil of two lessers.”

Please join us at our next monthly meeting as we work toward building America’s third largest and fastest growing party into a front and center clear alternative to those two lessers: the Donkeys and Elephants.

Fellow Libertarians,

A generous donor has agreed to match ALL donations to the Arizona Libertarian Party. This amazing opportunity will be going until October 24th and is the perfect time to make a significant financial contribution to the AZ LP!

This matching donation drive will be vital to building the party infrastructure in the coming year, which will strengthen our candidate support, push outreach for the party, build our county affiliates, increase our number of delegates at the national convention, and so much more. A strong Libertarian Party presence is what Arizona needs, and this is the way you can help make that happen!

Click HERE to have your donation matched and build the Libertarian Party in Arizona!

A crucial part of our party building efforts will be our volunteer base. Most people don’t know that they have a choice besides the Democrats and Republicans. We can’t afford to miss an opportunity to let them know they have more options!

We need to make sure we have a presence at every event as often as possible to get our name out there and give Arizonans hope. Let’s be the change that Arizona needs!

Give Arizona hope! Click HERE to donate and HERE to volunteer!

Notes from the (new) Chairman 09/22/17

Fellow Libertarians,

To follow-up on Bruce Wales’ message earlier today, I would like to thank Bruce for his years of hard work and dedication to organizing and advancing the Gila County Libertarian Party.

I’ll just take a moment to give you a bit of my background. I moved to Payson three years ago, so I’m relatively new to the area. But I’ve been a dues-paying member of the national Libertarian Party for 37 years. (My oh my, how time flies when governments at all levels keep growing, our taxes keep increasing and our liberties infringed more and more every day.)

Prior to Payson, I lived in Colorado for 27 years, and I was very active in the Libertarian Party of Colorado, serving as Membership Director and Public Information Director for four years. I did dozens of radio and TV interviews and helped the LP gain permanent ballot access in the state.

You may have seen my name published in the Payson Roundup as author of six letters to the editor on the subjects of taxation, education, and politics. I encourage everyone to write letters to the editor, call in to talk radio shows, make posts to Facebook, Twitter, etc, and exercise your First Amendment rights of free speech on behalf of liberty.

Next weekend, I am holding a yard sale at my house. You name it, I’ve probably got it for sale – everything literally from the kitchen sink to computer equipment, office supplies, housewares, tools, and much more. Please drop by, introduce yourself, mention that you are a Libertarian, and I’ll give you 50% off whatever you buy. I’m located at 2604 W. Bulla Drive in Payson. Follow the signs from the west end of Airport Road. The sale will be Friday and Saturday, September 29 and 30, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Hope to see you there.

Otherwise, feel free to drop me a line with any comments, questions, suggestions or other feedback you may have about the Libertarian Party, and how we may advance the cause of liberty In Gila County as well as all of Arizona and the US.

To Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness,

Larry Hoffenberg
Acting Chairman, Gila County Libertarian Party

Notes from the Chairman (former) 09/22/17

It is with personal regret but relief that at our monthly meeting Larry Hoffenberg assumed acting chairmanship from me for our Gila County Libertarian Party.

Larry brings decades of Libertarian history and experience to the leadership position.

I am proud of my political porcupine quills. I am glad to have a less trusting and more cautious tendency to align with popular media-fostered propaganda.

I am guessing most Libertarians have earned their quills honestly.

The questions before us, now I believe are: Can we lay our quills flat when it is time to group up? Also, when will we group up?

My parting petition to fellow Gila Libertarians- Re-ignite your tenacity (Re-sharpen your quills) in the form of more involvement (rubbing quills with like-minded).

Hopefully, you can individually spread the word more effectively to the ignorant by sharing the WORLD’S SMALLEST POLITICAL QUIZ – and other wake-up efforts.

I thank Larry for assuming leadership.
I look to him to improve upon my efforts.
I look to you all to sharpen your quills.

I hope to see you all at a monthly meeting soon.

Bruce Wales
(former) Acting Gila County Libertarian Chairman

Notes from the Chairman 09/06/17

Fellow Libertarians,

The Arizona Libertarian Party is launching a new outreach program to help county affiliates become more effective and visible.

Since Payson is centrally located in the middle of the state, the Gila County LP has offered to host a BBQ event for all the county affiliates leaders from across Arizona to come together, strategize and get things going!

We invite all Gila County Libertarians to join us at the BBQ to meet your fellow Libertarians in Gila County as well as from other locations across the state as we look to build upon the 2016, the most successful election year ever for the LP.
.
We’ll keep you informed as plans for the BBQ take shape.

And as always, we encourage you to attend our regular monthly meetings held on the third Tuesday of each month at Tiny’s Restaurant in Payson.

Bruce Wales
Gila County Libertarian Chairman

Law requiring more signatures for Libertarian candidates remains

The Arizona Libertarian Party was unsuccessful in a recent legal challenge to onerous new ballot access requirements for Libertarian candidates for statewide office. The law, passed by the GOP-majority state legislature, is clearly an attempt to obstruct competition from Libertarian candidates.

Bruce Wales, Acting Chairman of the Gila County Libertarian Party, stated “This court decision makes me seethe.”

It should make all Arizonans who support competition in our democratic electoral process seethe too.

SIGN THE PETITION!!

It’s a simple way to get some quick traction.

I’VE CREATED A PETITION calling on Speaker Paul Ryan to initiate impeachment proceedings against federal judges who have lied about the ruling by the Supreme Court in the unanimous Brushaber decision (as laid out in detail here— new version, btw…). Please sign the petition here.

Then share the link and this request around, by tweet, reddit, tumblr, facebook, whatever. Be creative and don’t confine yourself to just one community of interest. Judicial fraud is a “crossover” issue, of equal interest to everyone.

One Special Victory Posted This Week

Just one. But a good one…

HAVING HAD MOST OF MY TIME this week consumed with preparations for a Sunday presentation of the Tax Fraud material, I didn’t have enough left to do the required formatting and other tasks involved in posting a batch of victories, as I usually like to do each week. But I did carve out enough time for handling the one secured two weeks ago (and documented by the IRS again ten days later).

I made this special effort because the federal victory by James A. you’re about to see is a particularly good object lesson for the folks I discuss here. (I will admit, though, that I despair of those folks ever seeing this lesson, unless you folks metaphorically grab them by the lapels and shove it in their
faces.)

ON APRIL 10, 2017, James filed this return, claiming back the entire $18,790.07 withheld from him as nominal federal income tax, Social security income surtax and Medicare income surtax. Take note of the sworn statement attached to his return, in which James carefully and very clearly explains his filing.

“The Charlatan Flavor Of The Month”

This time it’s the “Revocation of Election” scam…

I’M NOT GOING TO DWELL TOO LONG on this ugly and harmful little bit of nonsense. I’ve said most of what needs to be said about it before. The Revocation of Election foolishness partakes of the same “income tax is citizenship and/or residency based” arguments which I’ve already debunked many times before (such as here, for instance). The only distinction is that the “RoE argument” throws a misunderstanding of 26 U.S.C. §§ 6013(g) and (h) into the mix.
